DACA is performing a Lead Abatement and Historical Renovation on
the Sloss Industries Blast Furnace Unit # One in Birmingham,
Alabama. The National Historical Foundation and The City of
Birmingham are funding the project.
SSPC Type 1A containment
and a SSPC SP-6 Commercial Blast were utilized on the full Lead
Abatement project. Pretreatment was utilized to make all of the
waste non-hazardous, and the vessel was recoated with a Mastic
Epoxy Primer and two coats of Induron Protective Coating’s High
Performance Acrylic Topcoats. There were substantial amounts of
steel replacement performed on badly deteriorated areas. The
project was finished two weeks early of its 65-day completion
schedule.
